Weekend Roundup

East wins All-Star Game - In what turned out to be a mildly entertaining All-Star Weekend, the East put together a late surge and defeated the West. The game was filled with the standard amount of flashy passes, spectacular dunks, and lots and lots of scoring. On Saturday, Dwight Howard wowed the crowd with his Superman that Dunk, and took home the title. This morning, all the pundits are saying that this is the best all-star contest in recent memory, and that the game finally lived up to the hype. But no one really cared; they’re just saying that.

Ryan Newman wins Daytona 500 - Apparently, this Newman feller was in a heckuva drought. He went 81 races without a win. I’ve actually gone 81 races without watching a race.

Mickelson wins at Riviera - Phil the Thrill won the Northern Trust Open with a solid Sunday round of 70 on the challenging course in L.A. It was his 33rd career win. But Tiger wasn’t playing this weekend. So Phil won, kind of. Of those 33 wins, I wonder how many of them were at tournaments that Tiger wasn’t participating in? Anyone have that stat?

Jason Kidd deal still in the works - Following Devean George’s lead, Jerry Stackhouse did his best to make sure that he wasn’t traded to the Nets. It worked. Now they have awoken Keith Van Horn from retirement (really?) and included him in the deal. In other 1996 Utah Utes news, Rick Majerus ate four large Quiznos subs yesterday, which beat his previous record of four medium Quiznos subs.
